In my experience, the people you drink with aren’t your friends. If your primary social activity with someone is alcohol-related, they are simply looking for someone to get smashed with, and any someone will do.

True friends are those people who would prefer to be sober around you so they can experience who you are (and vice versa).

In the end, there is no such thing as ‘social drinking’ because there is nothing social about it. The very ‘activity’ itself is wholly self-indulgent. It’s hard to focus on the people in the group when you’re so focused on making yourself unable to focus.
